The New Bedford Symphony Orchestra plays a vital role in bringing the power of music into the lives of children and families across our region. Through Music Therapy and community-based programming, the Orchestra helps create meaningful opportunities for connection, expression, and healing, particularly during the earliest and most important years of development.
Music Therapy supports early relational health by strengthening the bond between caregiver and child while promoting emotional regulation, communication, and cognitive growth. Simple, shared musical experiences, such as singing lullabies, clapping rhythms, or moving to music, activate multiple areas of a child’s developing brain and create a foundation for language, social-emotional development, and learning.
These experiences align closely with The Basics: maximizing love and managing stress through calming rhythms; talking, singing, and pointing through musical interaction; exploring through movement and play; and building early storytelling and communication through song and sound.
By partnering with the New Bedford Symphony Orchestra, we recognize that music is not only an art form but also a powerful, evidence-informed tool for supporting families and strengthening communities. Together, we are creating accessible, culturally rich opportunities for families to engage in joyful, developmentally meaningful experiences.
When science, music, and community come together, and we lead with love, we create environments where every child can thrive from the very beginning.
Because every child deserves a strong start
