Prenatal Care Teams:

Maternal-Fetal Medicine Specialists

At HEED Coalition and The Basics Southcoast/Rhode Island, we believe that every healthy beginning starts with access to a trusted and coordinated prenatal care team. Pregnancy is not a solitary journey; it is one best supported by skilled professionals who guide, monitor, and respond to both expected milestones and unforeseen challenges.

Prenatal care teams are made up of a range of providers, each bringing specialized expertise. Obstetrician-gynecologists (OB-GYNs) offer comprehensive medical care throughout pregnancy and childbirth. Nurse midwives provide a more holistic, patient-centered approach, often emphasizing education and natural processes while still ensuring clinical safety. Maternal-fetal medicine specialists (MFMs) focus on high-risk pregnancies, offering advanced monitoring and intervention when needed. Family medicine providers may also deliver prenatal care, particularly in community-based settings, ensuring continuity of care for both parent and child.

Together, these professionals form a network of care that not only supports physical health, but also fosters confidence, knowledge, and stability during one of life’s most critical seasons.
